Gong Gong 公公, 2016, 7 minutes 53 seconds.

Gong Gong is what I called my grandfather in Cantonese. My mother has nothing but praise and stories about how amazing my grandfather was, how he was a hero to his country, a scholar for the community, and a wonderful father figure to all his children. I honestly knew nothing about him besides him being old and wheelchair-bound and eventually… he passed away.

In the spirit of oral historical research, I decided to investigate this part of my family history with the help of my mother and other family members. The result might not mean much to everyone else, but it means the world to me that I was able to recover this small piece of human history.

Gong Gong, we love you, I hope you are proud of us.
